Intense Pulse
Light Laser (IPL)
Lasers emit coherent energy at a specific
wavelength in a single beam of light. Intense Pulsed Light
(IPL) is broadband
light energy that enables large areas to be treated with
a single discharge. This short wavelength visible light is
passed through filters which can be adjusted to match the
patients' skin types. Intense Pulsed Light, in combination
with laser, is ideal for the treatment of superficial skin
lesions. The advantage of IPL and laser combined is that
large areas can be treated quickly.
Are all IPL laser machines the same?
IPL is a generic name
and the quality of the machine does determine the effectiveness
of the treatment. There are different
types and quality of machines designed for different markets.
For example, the non-medical (beauty salons, aesthetic salons)
rarely use the medical grade machines because these machines
are designed for use by a medical practioner. Hence an IPL
machine designed for the non medial market will most probably
be less effective than a medical grade IPL machine which
must be used by medical professionals and the premise must
be approved by the Health Care Standards.
Will any IPL machine give the similar
results?
No. The quality of the machine and the training of
the clinician are directly related to the results achieved.
One should
not just compare prices of the treatment, it is important
that you receive treatment from a medial facility with High
Grade Medical IPL equipment.
Acne Rosacea-Full Description
What is It?
Rosacea is a potentially progressive neurovascular
disorder affecting the face, generally cheeks, nose and forehead. |
Symptoms can include facial redness,
inflammation, burning or warm tingly sensations. Some patients
suffer from inflamed pustules or spots.
Rosacea is primarily a disorder of the facial blood vessels
that undergo changes and become hyper responsive to internal
and external stimuli such as sun exposure, heat, rich food,
caffeine and alcohol.
How can it be treated?
Conventional treatment are oral and topical antibiotics
however Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has been clinically proven
as being successful in reducing the effects of Rosacea. The
IPL work was pioneered by Dr Patrick Bitter in America and
is now widely recognised as a preferred treatment for Rosacea
suffers due to its highly successful outcomes and the speed
at which improvements are realised.
How many treatments will I need?
Several treatments maybe
required depending on the severity of the Rosacea. The important
thing to remember is the higher
specification IPL equipment used generates improved results
at each application due to the flexibility of the parameters
and that greatly reduces the number of visits required. At
Rejuvadent we operate high specification equipment that
requires the use of skilled practitioners who optimise the
settings for each patient and at each subsequent visit.
Are the treatments painful?
The treatment is not painful
however there is slight discomfort sometimes described as
a sting or snap of an elastic band.
It generally accepted by all patients that this level of
discomfort is tolerable hence no local anaesthesia is required.
The treatments are so effective that patients can return
immediately to work or their daily routine and hence there
is no lost time. |
