Laser and IPL for Pigmentation

Pigmentation can be caused by a number of factors including sun exposure, hormone fluctuations and trauma to the skin (known as post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation).

The usual areas for treatment are the face, neck, décolletage and backs of hands, however, areas of pigmentation almost anywhere on the body can be treated.

How it works

Different wavelengths of light can be absorbed by specific structures in the skin to cause controlled damage to them. The damaged tissue can then be removed either through the production of new skin cells or by the immune system ‘flushing’ the dead tissue away.   To treat pigmentation Laser light is absorbed by the melanin, the pigment in the skin. This process generates heat and destroys the pigment cells.

What will happen after a treatment?

In the case of more superficial pigmentation there can be a darkening of the treated areas initially and a slight crusting of the lesions.  This will slough off after a few days revealing lightening of the skin lesion.  If the pigmentation is deeper in the skin this darkening of the lesion will not occur and a fading of the pigment will gradually become noticeable after repeated treatments.

How many treatments will it take?

A course of 3 – 6 treatments is usually recommended although you should see improvement after each session.  A period of 4 weeks would be left between treatments.

Laser and IPL for Thread Veins

Thread, or spider, veins, general redness and rosacea can all be successfully treated or improved with lasers. Thread veins can be caused by exposure to sun, hormones, genetics or environmental factors.

The usual areas for treatment are the face, particularly cheeks, nose and chin and the décolletage area.

How it works

Wavelengths of light are used that are absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood.  This generates heat causing the little blood vessel walls to collapse.  This dead tissue is then ‘flushed’ away by the immune system over the following weeks.

What will happen after a treatment?

Your skin will usually be a little flushed immediately after treatment but this tends to fade within an hour.  With some forms of laser treatment tiny scabs can form in the treated areas.  These are usually invisible but can be felt when you touch your skin.  Improvement in the condition will occur over the following weeks.

How many treatments will it take?

Some small vascular lesions can be treated in just one session, however, in most cases a course of  4-6 sessions is recommended.  Treatments would be at 4 – 6 weekly intervals.

Laser for Skin Rejuvenation

A concern for many people is the texture of their skin due to scarring, acne, open pores or general lumps and bumps.

Pixel™ fractional laser resurfacing is an excellent way of improving these conditions as well as tackling superficial pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment is also appropriate for the neck, chest and backs of hands.

How it works

The laser beam is split into a 7×7 or 9×9 grid, hence ‘pixel’.  Each of these pixels creates a micro-injury to the skin without disturbing the surrounding tissue.  Because only a percentage of the skin surface is targeted, leaving skin around the micro wounds untouched, there is little chance of infection and healing time is reduced dramatically compared to traditional full resurfacing. The combination of the exfoliating nature of the treatment and the generation of heat during the process causes the collagen to remodel, the skin to tighten and an overall improvement in the texture of the skin.

What will happen after a treatment?

Immediately following the procedure your skin will feel hot and tender to the touch much like sunburn for up to 3 to 4 hours.  After this time much of the heat sensation dissipates leaving the skin feeling tender for 24 hours or so.  The top layers of skin are shed over the following days as new skin forms and reveals fresher, clearer skin beneath.

Healing can take from 2 – 7 days depending on the intensity of the treatment and the healing capacity of your skin.  Any discomfort during this time is usually associated with the dryness of the surface layers of skin and can quickly be alleviated by applying moisturiser.

How many treatments will it take?

A course of 2 – 5 treatments is usually recommended at 3-4 weekly intervals.  Treatments take from 15 – 30 minutes.  Although initial improvement can be seen within a few days, the full effects of treatment are usually seen after 3 months as it can take this long for collagen to develop.

Medical Microdermabrasion with Derma Genesis®

Medical microdermabrasion is a safe, non-surgical resurfacing procedure that is suitable for young or old, male or female and for all skin types. It can be used on the chest, back and shoulders but is most commonly used for the face.

It is an effective skin rejuvenation procedure that requires no downtime, is relatively painless and causes little or no swelling, irritation or redness.

It is commonly used to improve fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, blackheads and whiteheads, open pores, acne prone skin and for generally rejuvenating the face.

How it works

A highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals removes the dead, outermost layer of skin, revealing the new, living skin cells below.

A hand piece is passed over the skin which ‘blasts’ the skin with the crystals. A vacuum simultaneously removes the dead skin and crystals. This process evenly removes the outermost layer of skin whilst stimulating the underlying layer to promote the production of new collagen.

What will happen after treatment?

There is no downtime and few negative effects following this treatment. Some clients experience mild redness immediately after the procedure but this usually fades within the hour. It is important to wear an SPF cream in the days following this procedure as your skin will initially be more susceptible to sun damage.

How many treatments will it take?

Even single treatments will make a difference, but a course of 3 – 10 treatments will produce the best results. Treatments can be performed at 2 – 4 weekly intervals with each taking 20 – 30 minutes.

Radiofrequency

Accent™ Radiofrequency is a pain-free treatment for skin tightening and volume reduction.

This is a treatment that can be performed on almost any part of the body but is very popular for facial skin tightening and for targeting areas of cellulite that exercise and diet alone cannot reach.

How it works

The main structural support of the skin is provided by the protein called collagen. Radiofrequency is able to generate heat much deeper into the skin whilst protecting the uppermost layers by cooling. The heat generated by the radiofrequency energy tightens the supportive framework of the skin by contraction of collagen fibres which aids remodelling and rejuvenation. This heat also stimulates a healing response which encourages the growth of new collagen. This acts as a new deep foundation for the skin producing further tightening that becomes evident over several months.

What will happen during and after treatment?

Baby oil is applied to the treatment area. This allows the Radio Frequency hand piece to glide smoothly over the skin. Your therapist will continuously apply the energy to the skin, checking the skin’s temperature periodically to ensure achieving therapeutic temperatures. Each area is treated for 5-10 minutes, depending on how long it takes to get to the desired temperature, before moving onto adjacent areas.

There is no downtime associated with Radiofrequency treatments. Following the procedure your skin will feel warm, but not uncomfortably so. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water before and after treatment to stay well hydrated.

How many treatments will it take?

Treatments for skin tightening on the face are at monthly intervals and will usually require 4 – 6 sessions. Maintenance treatments can be performed at 3 – 4 monthly intervals.
Radio Frequency for the treatment of cellulite is at weekly and sometimes bi-weekly intervals with 6 – 8 sessions being required.
Results vary from person to person and are often closely associated to one’s overall fitness and diet.

How much does it cost?

Radio frequency costs £50 per area per session. For example:
Skin tightening – full face £50 per session
Fat & cellulite reduction – stomach £50 “
Fat & cellulite reduction – thighs £50 “ (both legs)
